About this test

Key Benefits

What This Test Measures

This test measures two important adrenal-related hormones:

Cortisol and DHEA are involved in processes related to stress response, metabolism, energy regulation, sleep, and recovery.

About Cortisol and DHEA

Cortisol naturally follows a daily rhythm and is normally highest in the morning before gradually decreasing throughout the day. Measuring cortisol several times during the day provides a more detailed understanding of cortisol regulation than a single measurement.

DHEA is another hormone produced by the adrenal glands and plays a role in hormone production, energy balance, and recovery. Prolonged stress may influence DHEA levels over time.

Changes in cortisol and DHEA patterns may be associated with fatigue, sleep disturbances, low resilience, hormonal imbalance, and stress-related symptoms.

How It Works

Sample Collection

The test consists of two separate saliva tests.

The cortisol test includes 7 saliva samples collected throughout one day from morning to evening. The DHEA test includes 2 saliva samples collected during the morning.

Detailed sampling instructions are included in the kit.

Accredited and ISO-Certified Lab Analysis

The cortisol analysis is performed in an ISO-certified laboratory using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) technology for measurement of free cortisol.

The DHEA analysis is performed in an accredited laboratory using established laboratory analysis methods to ensure accurate and reliable hormone measurement.

Biomarkers included

How to prepare

Avoid eating, drinking (except water), brushing teeth, or smoking for 30 minutes prior to each collection.

Frequently asked questions

How does it work? / When do I get my results?

1. Order and receive your kit. 2. Perform the test. 3. Send a sample at the beginning of the week (to avoid delays). 4. Results digitally in 10–15 business days.

When should I collect my samples?

The cortisol samples must be collected seven times throughout a single day to map your circadian rhythm. The DHEA samples are typically collected twice in the morning. Detailed instructions in the kit will guide you on the specific timing to ensure the highest accuracy.

Who should take the Adrenal Test?

Common signs include persistent exhaustion that is not relieved by sleep, intense salt cravings, low blood pressure, brain fog, and difficulty waking up in the morning. If you have experienced prolonged periods of high stress or trauma, this test can help verify if your adrenal glands are functioning optimally.

Why is saliva used instead of a blood sample?

Saliva testing measures 'free' or bioavailable hormones, which are the hormones actually active in your tissues. Blood tests often measure total hormones, including those bound to proteins and inactive. Saliva is also non-invasive and allows for multiple collections in one day to see how levels change over time.
