About this test
Key Benefits
Comprehensive analysis of key neurotransmitters
Includes both inhibitory (GABA) and excitatory (glutamate) markers
Supports evaluation of mood, stress, sleep, and cognitive function
Identifies imbalances linked to fatigue, anxiety, and low motivation
Simple at-home urine test, no clinic visit required
About the Test
This test measures:
Serotonin: Supports mood, sleep, and overall well-being
Dopamine: Involved in motivation, focus, and reward
GABA: The main calming neurotransmitter, important for relaxation and sleep
Glutamate: The primary excitatory neurotransmitter, important for learning and memory
Adrenaline: Activates the stress response and increases alertness
Noradrenaline: Supports focus, energy, and stress regulation
Creatinine: Ensures accurate interpretation of results
Noradrenaline/Adrenaline ratio: Provides insight into stress balance
Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that regulate communication between nerve cells. Stress, whether physical or mental, can significantly affect this balance and influence both mental and physical health.
Symptoms of Imbalance
Imbalances in neurotransmitters may be associated with:
Low mood, depression, anxiety, fatigue, sleep problems, reduced focus, and cognitive difficulties.
Who Should Consider This Test?
This test may be useful for individuals who:
Experience mood changes, anxiety, or depression
Are exposed to chronic stress
Have sleep disturbances
Struggle with focus or attention
Want deeper insight into their mental and neurological health
How It Works and Sample Collection
Order your kit online, collect a urine sample at home, and send it back using the prepaid envelope. The sample should be taken from the second morning urine (typically between 08:00–10:00). Your digital results are provided once the analysis is complete (usually within 10–15 working days).
Preparation Before Testing
48 hours before the test: Avoid fish/shellfish and omega-3 supplements
Evening before the test: Avoid bananas, cheese, almonds, nuts, green and black tea (fruit tea allowed), vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, alcohol, coffee and caffeine, energy drinks, and nicotine
Morning of sampling: Refrain from exercise and avoid testing during menstruation
Avoid SSRI, 5-HTP, and tryptophan 5–7 days before testing (unless you want to measure levels while using them).
Accredited Analysis Method and Laboratory
Your sample is analyzed in an accredited laboratory using LC-MS (mass spectrometry), calculated values, and enzymatic analysis, ensuring high precision, accuracy, and reliable results.
Biomarkers included
- GABA: GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter and helps regulate neuronal excitability by promoting calm signaling and preventing overstimulation. It counterbalances excitatory neurotransmitters such as glutamate and is involved in pathways related to stress regulation, sleep, mood, and muscle tone. Altered GABA signaling has been linked to conditions such as an
- Dopamine: Dopamine is a key neurotransmitter that supports the brain’s reward and motivation systems. It plays essential roles in mood regulation, pleasure, focus, memory, and movement control. Imbalances in dopamine levels can affect mental well-being and are linked to conditions such as depression, anxiety, and Parkinson’s disease.
- Noradrenaline/Norepinephrine: Noradrenaline, also called norepinephrine, is a chemical that functions as both a hormone and a neurotransmitter in the body. It plays a key role in the fight-or-flight response, enhancing alertness, arousal, and reaction speed. Noradrenaline also supports mood regulation and helps maintain blood pressure by constricting blood vessels.
- Adrenaline/Epinephrine: Adrenaline (epinephrine) is a hormone and neurotransmitter released by the adrenal glands. It plays a critical role in the body’s fight-or-flight response, preparing the body for rapid action during stress. Adrenaline elevates heart rate, widens airways, and enhances energy availability, supporting quick and effective survival responses.
- Creatinine: Creatinine is a waste product formed in muscles from the normal breakdown of creatine. It is released into the bloodstream and filtered by the kidneys, then excreted in urine. Because creatinine levels are influenced by how efficiently the kidneys filter blood, it is commonly used to assess kidney function. Elevated creatinine may indicate reduced kidney filtration or kidney disease, while low lev
- Noradrenaline/Adrenaline ratio: The noradrenaline/adrenaline (NA/A) ratio is a measure that reflects the balance between two key stress hormones — noradrenaline (norepinephrine) and adrenaline (epinephrine). Both play vital roles in the body’s fight-or-flight response, influencing heart rate, blood pressure, and energy mobilization. This ratio can shift in response to factors such as stress, physical activity, and overall health
- Serotonin: Serotonin is a key neurotransmitter often called the “happiness chemical,” involved in regulating mood and emotional well-being. It also plays important roles in sleep, digestion, bone health, and blood clotting. Mainly produced in the gut, serotonin influences both the brain and body by affecting various physiological functions and emotional states. Imbalances in serotonin levels can have signifi
- Glutamate: Glutamate is a key excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain that plays a vital role in cognitive processes such as learning and memory. It is essential for brain development and synaptic plasticity. However, excessive glutamate levels can cause neuronal overstimulation, leading to potential neurotoxicity. This balance makes glutamate critical for normal brain function while also linking it to vari
How to prepare
You take the test on an empty stomach in the morning. If tracking code is available, please attach it to the front of the envelope (found on your test-ID card). **48 hours before the test:** Avoid fish/shellfish & omega-3 supplements. **Evening before the test:** Avoid bananas, cheese, almonds, nuts, green and black tea, vanilla, cocoa, chocolate, alcohol, coffee and caffeine, energy drinks, nicotine. **Morning of sampling:** Refrain from excercise.
Frequently asked questions
How does it work? / When do I get my results?
1. Order and receive your kit. 2. Perform the test. 3. Send a sample at the beginning of the week (to avoid delays). 4. Results digitally in 10–15 business days.
What are neurotransmitters?
Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers used by the nervous system to transmit signals between neurons. They regulate vital functions including mood, sleep, appetite, heart rate, and the body's response to stress.
What is the relationship between GABA and Glutamate?
GABA and Glutamate exist in a delicate balance. GABA is inhibitory (calming), while Glutamate is excitatory (stimulating). Overstimulation by Glutamate or insufficient GABA can lead to restlessness and sleep issues, whereas the right balance supports focus and relaxation.
