DBS Blood Sample Collection
The sample is collected using a finger prick dried blood spot sample at home. A few drops of blood are placed onto the collection card according to the included instructions and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
ISO Certified Lab and Analysis
The sample is analysed at an ISO certified laboratory using the ELISA, Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay, method.
The analysis measures IgE antibody responses to cat and dog allergens. Results are reported separately for cat and dog and shown on a 0 to 6 scale, helping indicate the level of detectable IgE response for each animal.
Biomarkers included
- Cat dander: Allergenic protein found in the skin, saliva, and urine of cats, which can cause respiratory issues and asthma.
- Dog dander: Allergenic protein found in the skin, saliva, and urine of dogs, leading to respiratory issues and skin reactions.
How to prepare
To support accurate results, it is recommended that you have been exposed to **cats or dogs within the last few months** before testing. Repeated exposure helps ensure that IgE antibodies, if present, can be detected. Limited or no recent exposure may affect the result. Follow the included instructions carefully before collecting your sample.
Frequently asked questions
Can this test show if I react more to cats or dogs?
Yes. Cat and dog results are reported separately, so you can see whether your response is linked to one animal, both or neither.
Do I need recent exposure to cats or dogs before testing?
Yes, recent exposure is recommended. Limited or no recent exposure may affect the result.
What does the 0 to 6 scale mean?
The scale shows the level of detectable IgE response, from no detectable reaction to a higher response.
