How to prepare

Do not **eat, drink, smoke or chew gum** for at least 30 minutes before taking the test. Frequently asked questions

When is the best time to perform the test?

You should take the test if you experience sudden throat pain, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or white patches on the tonsils. It is especially useful if these symptoms occur without a cough, as a cough often indicates a viral rather than bacterial infection.

Can a negative result rule out Strep A?

No. A negative result does not fully exclude Strep A, especially if the sample was not collected correctly or if antigen levels are below the detectable limit.
