About this test
What This Test Measures
The test detects Trichomonas vaginalis antigen from a vaginal swab sample.
It provides a qualitative result, meaning the result indicates whether Trichomonas vaginalis antigen was detected or not detected in the sample.
Target Audience
This test is intended for healthcare professionals who need a rapid Trichomonas vaginalis antigen screening tool for use within healthcare settings.
How It Works
1. Order the Kit
The kit is ordered for professional use in healthcare settings.
2. Collect the Sample
A vaginal swab sample is collected according to the included instructions.
3. Run the Test
The swab sample is prepared and applied to the test cassette according to the test procedure.
4. Read the Result

Sample collection, preparation and result interpretation should be performed according to applicable professional procedures.
Preparation Before Testing
Follow the instructions provided by the healthcare professional and the included test instructions. Sample collection, preparation, timing and result interpretation should be performed under appropriate professional guidance.
The test components and samples should be brought to room temperature 15 to 30 °C before testing, according to the included instructions.
Symptoms and Clinical Context
Trichomonas vaginalis infection can be asymptomatic, but it may also cause symptoms affecting the vaginal or urinary area. Symptoms can include unusual vaginal discharge, irritation, itching, burning during urination, genital discomfort or discomfort during intercourse.
Clinical presentation can overlap with other vaginal or sexually transmitted infections, including bacterial vaginosis, Candida infection, chlamydia or gonorrhea. For this reason, clinical context, patient history and any additional findings are important when assessing possible infection.
Important Limitations
This test is intended as a screening tool and provides qualitative detection of Trichomonas vaginalis antigen from vaginal swab samples. It does not test for all sexually transmitted infections and does not provide a quantitative antigen level.
A negative result does not exclude infection if sample collection is insufficient or if antigen levels are below the detectable limit of the test.
The test cannot determine whether the organism is viable or non viable. A positive result indicates antigen detection, not organism activity. Results should be interpreted by healthcare professionals together with patient history, symptoms and other relevant clinical findings.
Biomarkers included
- Trichomonas: Trichomonas vaginalis infection (Trichomoniasis) is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. It affects both men and women, though symptoms are more frequently seen in women. This infection can lead to irritation and increase the risk of contracting other STIs, including HIV.
How to prepare
Bring the test components and sample to room temperature 15 to 30 °C before use. Follow the included test instructions and applicable professional procedures for sample collection, preparation, timing and result interpretation.
