About this test

What This Test Measures

The test detects IgG and IgM antibodies against Borrelia in a blood sample.

Borrelia IgM antibodies
IgM antibodies may be associated with an earlier or more recent immune response. Interpretation should be made carefully, as antibody timing can vary and early infection may not always produce detectable antibodies.

Borrelia IgG antibodies
IgG antibodies usually develop later and may remain detectable long term. A positive IgG result may indicate previous exposure or a more established immune response to Borrelia.

This test does not detect the bacteria directly. It detects the immune response to Borrelia.

Target Audience

This test is intended for healthcare professionals who need a rapid Borrelia IgG and IgM antibody screening tool for use within healthcare settings.

How It Works

1. Order the Kit
The kit is ordered for professional use in healthcare settings.

2. Collect the Sample
A blood sample is collected according to the included instructions.

3. Run the Test
The sample and buffer are applied to the test cassette according to the test procedure.

4. Read the Result
The result is read after 10 minutes. Results should not be interpreted after 20 minutes.

Sample Collection

The test can be performed using whole blood, serum or plasma, according to the included instructions. If finger prick blood is used, the sample should be tested immediately.

Sample collection, handling and result interpretation should be performed according to the included instructions and applicable professional procedures.

Preparation Before Testing

Bring the test components and sample to room temperature 15 to 30 °C before use.

Follow the included test instructions and applicable professional procedures for sample collection, timing and result interpretation. Testing should be performed under appropriate professional guidance.

Symptoms and Clinical Context

Lyme disease may be associated with a spreading skin rash known as erythema migrans, often appearing around the site of a tick bite. Other early symptoms can include fatigue, fever, headache and muscle or joint pain.

In some cases, symptoms may develop later and involve the joints, nervous system or heart. Antibody testing should be interpreted together with exposure history, symptoms, timing of illness and other clinical findings.

Important Limitations

This test is intended as a screening tool and provides qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against Borrelia. It does not provide a quantitative antibody level and does not detect the bacteria directly.

The test should not be used as the only criterion for diagnosing Lyme disease. Results should be interpreted by healthcare professionals together with clinical history, tick exposure, symptoms and other relevant findings.

A negative result does not exclude Borrelia infection, especially if testing is performed early before antibodies have developed or if antibody levels are below the detectable limit of the test. Further assessment or additional testing may be needed when clinical suspicion remains.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lyme disease?

Lyme disease, also called borreliosis, is an infection caused by Borrelia bacteria, usually transmitted through bites from infected ticks.

What is the difference between IgG and IgM antibodies?

IgM may be associated with an earlier immune response, while IgG usually develops later and may remain detectable long term. Results should be interpreted within the clinical context.

Is this test intended for home use?

No. The test is CE-marked and intended for professional use in healthcare settings.
